    Abstract

Wearable communities-social networks based on computer-augmented face-to-face encounters-present both social and technical design challenges. Our WearCom design methodology permits rapid prototyping of wearable community systems to facilitate community building.

Journal or Publication Title: Volume 1
Additional Information: Social mobile computing is seen as one of the most important research areas in computing. This paper represents the culmination of a series of papers on the intersection of wearable technologies and social computing that has received significant attention in the research community (e.g., the 2001 paper 'When Peer-to-Peer comes Face-to-Face' is listed with over 120 citations in Google Scholar). The significance of this paper lies in the theoretical framework for augmenting human face-to-face interactions with wearable technology. This research has spurred a wave of practical research into collaborative systems for ad hoc peer-to-peer networks. RAE_import_type : Journal article RAE_uoa_type : Computer Science and Informatics
