This paper presents an overview of the main human rights and equality instruments that apply to the UK. There have been signficant developments in recent years in UK policy and legislation on equality and human rights. As part of a feasibility study for a Scottish Research Centre on Equality and Human Rights, this report presents a historical review of the main international and national policy developments, assessing their role in shaping UK policy, and examining the main developments in UK equality legislation up to and including the most recent Equality and Human Rights Act 2006.
