Fresh fruit and vegetables are good for us according to government campaigns. Convenience produce, ready-to-eat packs, and even organic crops run increased risks of microbial contamination. Keith Jones and Joanna Heaton of Lancaster University explore the issues and the evidence, and conclude that not everything in the garden is rosy.
